Universal Orlando Resort is getting closer and closer to the opening date (May 22) of the first new Orlando theme park in 30 years! Universal Epic Universe is shaping up to be a world class addition to the lineup. Alongside this park full of immersive scenery, one-of-a-kind attractions and never before seen tech, Universal is opening 3 new resort hotels. Terra Luna, Grand Helios and Stella Nova. Stella Nova hosted its first guests this week in its sleek, retro futuristic galaxy themed quarters.
Features of this resort feature some of the amenities we've come to expect at the fun-meets-resort-luxury, Prime Value resorts in Universal's line up. Like a game room, Universal store, and Starbucks coffee, plus the Stella Nova-tized versions of casual dining spots, lobby and pool bar, and lagoon style pool. I have yet to make plans to stay here, but the unique visuals what Universal says centers on "distant galaxies, new stars, and mysterious black holes" definitely appeals to me. The lobby and other shared spaces feature organic shapes and curved lines, along sculptural lighting fixtures and furniture. Its primarily stark white but interspersed with galaxy prints and spacey wall art. As someone who values unique experience over a familiar, comfy vibe, I find Stella Nova compelling. It's not like any hotel I've ever seen and while it has elements that make it a clearly Universal resort, it also offers something all its own.
The third floor has a black hole/galaxy themed stretch of hallway that has a dark starry ceiling overhead. Again, I've never seen something like it, and its sure to capture the eye of potential visitors perusing social media for travel inspo, and will be a must snap pic for anyone coming through. The rooms carry the round edges from downstairs into the windows and fixtures, though a bit more subtly. The standard room has a traditional layout, with built in storage and sitting area similar to Surfside Inn and Suites, so check out my review of there for more room layout deets. The oblong window on the far wall, though a cool shape, is much smaller compared to the floor to ceiling windows I'm used to seeing at the other resorts. Regardless of the size though, many of those windows look directly into Epic Universe, which is a view that's currently very exclusive. These glimpses into the fun of a brand-new park will only get more tantalizing once the park opens, but for now it's one of only a few peeks into the progress at all. That's something you won't be finding at the hotels on the other side of the resort!
Judging by what I've seen so far, this resort looks like a great option for couples, friends and families with older kids. If you're looking for a more traditional stay, there are plenty of options in the Universal Resort line up, but Stella Nova will offer a unique vibe for travellers that value being transported to another world, even at their hotel. If you want to see more, I highly recommend this video of the media preview by Youtuber Super Enthused. I primarily based my description and thoughts on this video, plus what Universal has available on their sites. I love how she makes her content, and she has offered some of the most comprehensive looks at the new property so far. She also shares her experience tasting some of the food and describes the outside design more in depth, so it's definitely worth a look.
